Today is Avery’s half birthday. That’s right, I’m the mother to a 2.5 year old! In honor of this milestone, I want to share the details of her tutti fruity 2nd birthday party!
I’ve known that I wanted to do this party theme since Avery was just a handful of months old. It’s bright, perfect for summer, and just so punny! As you’d probably expect, I gathered a lot of inspiration from a very Pinteresting place. I wanted to share a little bit of the planning as well as the results.

A Tutti Fruity Birthday Cake
I wanted a big, multi-layer cake like the many I came across on Pinterest, but I couldn’t bring myself to pay the price of cake that size for a toddler’s birthday party. So I learned how to make one! I think the two resources I utilized most were this guide for making a stacked cake and this one for frosting a smooth cake with buttercream icing. The two cakes that inspired my ultimate design were this cute little pineapple guy and this watermelon cake. I was super worried about the results of the cake, but thankfully for my ego, the feedback was wonderful!
Tutti Fruity Cookies
You know there is no way that I could do this party theme without doing the adorable fruit shaped cookies! A friend of a friend made them and they turned out so precious. And even tasted good!
Activity: Decorate a Fruity Party Hat
One of the activities was to decorate your own party hat. We ordered an assortment of plain party hats and a bag of foam stickers in fruit shapes. Bonus: We kept our four favorites left behind after the party for dress-up play.
Activity: Coloring Pages
Activity: A Fruity Photoframe
We cut out a square from white foam core board and printed out some fruit shapes from The Crafting Chicks to glue around the frame.
Tutti Fruity Birthday Party Favors
Regrettably, I didn’t get a good snap of the party favors I painstakingly hand painted to look like an assortment of fruit slices, as inspired by Oh Happy Day. Inside there were rainbow crayons, fruity scented play dough, fruit shaped erasers, and these really cute fruit counting cards.
Can I just say it’s really hard to capture a party in photos when you’re the hostess? I feel like there were so many other fun details that were unfortunately not captured. And if it looks like maybe Avery wasn’t having the best time, it’s because she was coming down with pneumonia! Ah, toddler life!
With six months until she turns three, I’ve started to wonder if I’ll get to pick her party theme or if this will be the year she has an opinion. Only time will tell!
