I must confess, I’ve been keeping a secret and it hasn’t been easy to keep under wraps. We recently found out the gender of baby number two. We were pretty anxious to find out so we never considered not finding out at our anatomy ultrasound but decided we’d tell our toddler daughter in a fun way. After much consideration, we let the calendar be our inspiration and decided to use pumpkins to spill the beans! Keep reading to get details on our gender reveal plan, Avery’s reaction, and of course the big news itself!
Now see it in action in this video as we explain what’s going to happen, see her find out, and then her subsequent interest.
Gender Reveal Set-Up
This gender reveal idea was actually pretty simple to execute. We cut top off a large pumpkin and scooped it out. I used white acrylic paint and a sponge brush to paint the words “it’s a…” on the outside. Except in this very moment, I realized I never actually painted the apostrophe, but it is what it is, right?
I painted a smaller pumpkin blue and once that was dry, I added the word “boy.” I was worried about ruining the paint on the mini pumpkin so I put a small paper plate on the inside bottom of the pumpkin. As you’ll see in the video, this was a big point of interest for Avery.
Pro tip: Make sure the opening at the top is large enough to fit the mini pumpkin you chose.
Thanks for all of the well-wishes we’ve received so far. It’s clear that this baby boy is already so loved and we can wait to meet him in just a few short months!
