You’ve probably seen a sponsored post for Chatbooks in your Facebook newsfeed, oh, about a million times, and you probably just scrolled past it. I know I did.
But then one day I clicked play on this video. I don’t really remember why, I just know I’m glad I did.
It’s hilarious. I made my husband pull over to watch it so he could understand why I was laughing so hard.
Even better, the ad made it seem like it truly was easy to turn my thousands of photos of Avery into something tangible that we could look through, because my kid loves looking at pictures of herself and her people. My sister-in-law was already receiving her Chatbooks regularly, so after verifying the ease with her, I signed up.
So far I’ve only done a Facebook photos series, but you can also do Instagram, iPhone favorites, and Camera Roll is in Beta testing. They also have custom photo books which seem to have fun custom covers from time to time. I ordered a custom book of my family’s 2016 photos with one of their 2016 covers designed by Rifle Paper Co.
I’ve been doing this for a few months and have a handful of volumes now. I took me a few tries to really get the hang of it, so in sharing my experience, I hope you can learn from me rather than the hard way.
Chatbooks dates the photos based on when you uploaded the photo to Facebook. You can change the date prior to printing. I didn’t change the date on my first few books because I didn’t think I would care. I’ve grown to regret that. Now I try to upload my photos the same day I take them. This way I don’t have to spend time editing photo dates before my book prints.
Start at the Beginning
When I started my Facebook series, I went back and ordered books for Facebook photos I took in the last year with the intention of going back later and ordering older ones later. Bad call. The books are number starting with Volume 1. So ordering anything before that will make the volumes be out-of-order by date. So my advice to you is it start at the beginning; as they say, it’s a very good place to start.
The photos don’t automatically sort by the date taken and it took me a few orders to realize you could order the photos within the volumes. It’s a simple drag and drop. But I didn’t realize it at first so my first few volumes are out-of-order. Womp.
Well now that I’ve shared those tips, I might have just talked myself into start anew. I only have a handful of volumes. It wouldn’t be that much wasted effort. And I certainly think it would be worth it.
