Nail color used: Julep Johnny
This week’s design was inspired by fashion. I had come across a really pretty Alena Akhmadullina dress with a deep v-neck and a sheer polka dot lace overlay. For some reason, all I could see when looking at this dress was a polka dot nail art design.
After a quick mental brainstorm, I knew how I wanted to put this look on nail. Over a base coat, I used a striping brush to line a deep v in black on each nail, filing in from the line to the nail tip. Rather than attempt a mesh look on such a tiny canvas, I kept it simple by using a negative space technique. On the empty triangle on my nail, I used my smallest dotting tool to create a pattern of tiny polka dots.
If you get any black on your cuticles while doing this design (like I did), there is a really easy clean-up technique. Dip a flat edged brush in acetone and swipe around the cuticles to gently clean up the excess.
The last step, as always is your favorite top coat. Just make sure the black polish is very dry so it doesn’t smear.
